Llandow Trackday June 2012

We had organised a small trackday at the Llandow circuit west of Cardiff and were going to be giving passenger rides. We traveled down the afternoon before and set up camp with some of the other lads. It was a lovely evening as we sat outside the pub but rain was forecast for the following day. And lots of it.

The rain came at just past midnight and everyone made a dash for the tents. It continued to rain extremely hard till around 6am. I managed a few hours sleep and most people’s tents leaked, but we were all in high spirits as we traveled the shot distance to the circuit and tucked into breakfast baguettes. The day kicked off around 10:30 with some light drizzle and a wet track. We had a good group of 30 cars attending, mostly Clio’s but a few other makes too. Myself and Tony busied ourselves having passenger rides with a few lads to give some experienced advice.

It rained hard shortly after the day got under way and left huge puddles of standing water on some bends. the weather didn’t put anyone off though and all seamed to have a great time. We fired up the race car after lunch for some passenger rides, the rain giving us an opportunity to test out the new tyres we had for such weather. Tony was in the car for an hour taking people round and was impressed with the tyres through the standing water. I got in the car as it stopped raining and began to dry. The car developed some understeer in the damp and drying conditions but it was good to learn how the tyres would react in this situation. We were still running the setup from Silverstone (plus a passenger) so that had something to do with it. All in all a good day, we really enjoyed it. Having only 30 cars and about 50 people there led to a very friendly and sociable atmosphere, it was so good were going to do it again soon.
